Privacy Policy

PrepRise is a free Digital SAT prep app. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, who it is shared with, how it is protected, and the choices you have.

1. Who runs PrepRise

PrepRise is an independent project created and operated by a single student developer. It is not a company, and it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the College Board, which administers the official SAT. You can reach PrepRise about any privacy question using the contact method in Section 11.

2. Information the app collects

When you create an account and use PrepRise, the app stores:

• Account information — the email address you sign up with, and a display name you choose. If you sign in with Google, the app receives your email address from Google for sign-in purposes.
• Setup answers — the starting and target scores, test date, weak areas, and daily study time you choose when you set up your plan.
• Study activity — the practice questions you answer, whether you got them right, your accuracy by topic, missed questions saved for review, time spent, streaks, and your study plan progress.
• Full-length tests — your answer to each question, whether it was right, how long you spent on it, and your scores.
• Scores you enter — any SAT practice or official scores you choose to add, with any notes you write.
• Progress data — your XP, level, badges, and related progress information generated as you use the app.
• AI results — if you use a full-length test review or score report analysis, the result is saved to your account so you can see it again.
• Feedback and reports — messages you send through Share feedback, Report this question, or Report this name (which also records the reported display name and that account's ID), stored with your email address and display name so PrepRise can follow up.
• Subscription information — if you subscribe or start a free trial, PrepRise stores an identifier for your Stripe customer record, which subscription plan you are on, and when a free trial ends. Your card details are entered on Stripe's own payment page and are never sent to or stored by PrepRise.
• Free-trial record — to stop the same payment card being used for repeated free trials, PrepRise stores a one-way cryptographic hash of a card reference supplied by Stripe. This reference is not your card number, cannot be turned back into your card number, and cannot be used to charge you. It is used only to check whether a card has already had a free trial.
• Refund record — when you use the in-app refund (see the billing and refund terms), PrepRise stores the date and amount with your account, and the same kind of one-way hash of the card reference, so the automatic refund can be used once per account and once per card.
• Partner codes — if you apply a partner code (for example, one from a school team), PrepRise saves it to your account so it applies when you start a free trial.

PrepRise does not ask for your real name, phone number, address, or school, and does not collect them. When you sign up, it asks for your birth year (and, for one year, your birth month) only to check your age, as described in Section 7; that answer is not saved or sent anywhere. PrepRise never receives or stores your card number, expiry date, or security code — those go directly to Stripe.

3. How your information is used

The information above is used only to:

• Provide the app's features — saving your progress, building your study plan, showing your stats and score projections, and syncing your data across devices.
• Generate AI explanations, test reviews, and score report analyses when you ask for them, as described in Section 4.
• Run the leaderboard, as described in Section 5.
• Handle subscriptions, free trials, and refunds, and email you about them, such as a confirmation when a plan or trial starts and reminders before a free trial ends.
• Send account emails you ask for, such as verifying your email address or resetting your password.
• Read and answer feedback, fix questions that students report, and review display names that students report.
• Understand, in aggregate, how the app is used so it can be improved, and keep it secure.

PrepRise does not sell your information, does not share it with advertisers, and does not show ads.

4. AI features

AI explanations, full-length test reviews, and score report analysis are generated by Google's Gemini models through Google Cloud Vertex AI. PrepRise sends Google only what each feature needs:

• AI explanations — the practice question and the answer you chose.
• Full-length test reviews — your accuracy and timing on that test, by question and topic.
• Score report analysis — the score report PDF you upload. The PDF is analyzed but not stored; only the analysis is saved to your account.

PrepRise does not send your email address or display name to the AI. Google's terms for this service say it won't use this data to train its models without permission. Google may briefly cache requests and may log them to detect abuse.

5. The leaderboard

Once you choose a display name, PrepRise keeps a leaderboard record for your account. Other students see your display name, your XP, and a crown if you are on the Unlimited plan.

The same record also holds summary statistics about your studying: your level, badge count, streaks, study sessions and minutes, days active (including your last 14 active dates), when you joined and were last active, how many scores you have logged and your first, latest, and best overall score, and the questions you have answered and your accuracy, overall and by topic. This record is publicly readable: someone who knows how to query the app's database could read it. It never includes your email address. Because of this, choose a display name that is not your full real name.

6. How your information is stored and protected

Account and study data are stored using Google Firebase, a hosting and database service. Security rules restrict access: your account record and your full-length test results can be read only by you, while you are signed in. The leaderboard record described in Section 5 is the exception. Partner codes, free-trial and refund records, and feedback cannot be read from the app at all.

No method of storage or transmission over the internet is completely secure, and PrepRise cannot guarantee absolute security. The app is operated by a student and is provided as-is.

7. Children and younger users

PrepRise is intended for high school students preparing for the SAT. Accounts are for people 13 and older: sign-up asks for your birth year and does not create an account for anyone younger. The birth year is used only for that check and is not stored. The app does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If a parent or guardian believes a child under 13 has provided information, they may contact PrepRise using the method below to have it removed.

If you are under 18, please review this policy with a parent or guardian before using PrepRise. Paying for a plan requires being 18 or older, or having a parent's or guardian's permission to use the card, as described in the billing and refund terms.

8. Third-party services

PrepRise uses these services to run. Each has its own privacy policy.

• Google Firebase and Google Cloud — accounts, sign-in, database storage, and the app's server functions. If you choose Google sign-in, Google handles your login, and its privacy policy applies to that process.
• Google Cloud Vertex AI — the AI features described in Section 4.
• Google reCAPTCHA — helps protect the app's servers from automated abuse. It collects information about your device and browser under Google's privacy policy and terms.
• Stripe — payments and subscriptions. When you subscribe or start a free trial, you are taken to Stripe's own checkout page, and your card details are given to Stripe rather than to PrepRise. You can view your plan, change your payment method, or cancel at any time from Settings → Subscription, which opens a page hosted by Stripe.
• Resend — sends PrepRise's emails to your email address: account emails (verifying your address, resetting your password) and billing emails (plan and trial confirmations, free-trial reminders, refund receipts).
• Netlify — hosts the website. Like any web host, it receives your IP address and basic browser information when you load a page.
• Google Fonts — serves the site's fonts, so your browser connects to Google when a page loads.

PrepRise does not use third-party advertising or tracking services.

9. Your choices and rights

• Access — you can see your own data at any time within the app.
• Correction — you can change your display name in Settings, and delete scores you have logged.
• Deletion — you can delete your account and its data, including your leaderboard record, at any time in Settings → Delete account (on a phone, use Delete my account on the screen you see after signing in). It takes effect right away, cancels any subscription, and you get an email confirming it. You can also ask by email, and PrepRise will delete it within 30 days. Deleted data may remain in encrypted backups for up to 14 weeks before it is overwritten.
• Email — PrepRise emails you only about your account and subscription (such as verifying your email address, plan confirmations, and free-trial reminders), and when answering feedback you send. It does not send marketing email.

10. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as PrepRise changes. When it does, the "Last updated" date at the top will change. Significant changes will be noted within the app where reasonably possible.
