Privacy Policy

PrepRise is a free, gamified SAT study tracker. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, how it is protected, and the choices you have. It also explains that PrepRise is used in educational research, and what that means for you.

1. Who runs PrepRise

PrepRise is an independent project created and operated by a single student developer. It is not a company, and it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the College Board, which administers the official SAT. You can reach PrepRise about any privacy question using the contact method in Section 10.

2. Information the app collects

When you create an account and use PrepRise, the app stores:

Account information — the email address you sign up with, and a username you choose. If you sign in with Google, the app receives your email address from Google for sign-in purposes.
Study activity — study sessions you log, practice questions you answer, your answers and accuracy by topic, time spent studying, and your daily streaks.
Scores you enter — any SAT practice or official scores you choose to add to track your progress.
Progress data — your XP, level, badges, and related game-progression information generated as you use the app.

PrepRise does not ask for your real name, phone number, address, school, or payment information, and does not collect them.

3. How your information is used

The information above is used only to:

Provide the core features of the app — saving your progress, showing your stats, and syncing your data across devices.
Display a leaderboard, which shows usernames and study progress (such as XP and streaks) but never email addresses.
Understand, in aggregate, how the app is used, so it can be improved.
Support the research described in Section 5.

PrepRise does not sell your information, does not share it with advertisers, and does not show ads.

4. How your information is stored and protected

Account and study data are stored using Google Firebase, a hosting and database service. Data is protected by security rules that restrict access: your individual account record can be read only by you, while you are signed in. A separate, limited set of non-identifying progress data (such as username, XP, and streak) is stored so that features like the leaderboard can function.

No method of storage or transmission over the internet is completely secure, and PrepRise cannot guarantee absolute security. The app is operated by a student and is provided as-is.

5. Use of data in research

PrepRise is also the basis of an educational research project. The project studies whether gamified study tools — features like XP, streaks, levels, and badges — affect how consistently students study and how their practice outcomes change over time.

For this research, PrepRise analyzes de-identified, aggregated data: study activity, progress metrics, and score changes, examined across users as a group. Research analysis does not use email addresses, and findings are reported only as overall patterns and statistics, never in a way that identifies an individual user.

If you do not want your data used in this research, you may request removal using the contact method below, or delete your account, which removes your data from future analysis.

6. Children and younger users

PrepRise is intended for high school students preparing for the SAT. The app does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you are under 18, please review this policy with a parent or guardian before using PrepRise. If a parent or guardian believes a child under 13 has provided information, they may contact PrepRise using the method below to have it removed.

7. Third-party services

PrepRise relies on Google Firebase for accounts, database storage, and sign-in. If you choose Google sign-in, Google handles your login and its own privacy policy applies to that process. PrepRise does not use third-party advertising or tracking services.

8. Your choices and rights

Access — you can see your own data at any time within the app.
Correction — you can edit your username, logged sessions, and scores within the app.
Deletion — you can request deletion of your account and associated data. Deleting your account also removes your data from future research analysis.
Research opt-out — you can request that your data be excluded from research, as described in Section 5.

9. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as PrepRise changes. When it does, the "Last updated" date at the top will change. Significant changes will be noted within the app where reasonably possible.
